About

Rudy McComb

Hi! I’m Rudy, Founder and CEO of ThnkBIG.

I love helping people. I’m also passionately obsessed with open-source cloud native technology that provides internal and external customers with world-class experiences, drives down costs, and makes businesses run more efficiently by bringing products to market in a fraction of the time.

I first experienced this joy in 2000 when I started my custom PC business with parts that could be purchased online and then had to choose Windows Me or Debian Woody as the OS.

Then again, when I joined NBC Universal in 2010 and built out our FOG Server environment, and ultimately, in 2013, I joined Harbor Freight Tools and built out their Puppet and OpenStack platforms. I was one of three Linux SysAdmins on their newly formed DevOps team, and we started doing groundbreaking work integrating Logstash and Docker into our existing platform across RHEL, Windows, and MacOS.

I’ve spent the bulk of my career, the last 15 years, architecting, building, managing, and scaling both on-premise and cloud infrastructure for early-stage startups to Fortune 100 companies. While simultaneously studying open and closed-source technology, experimenting, pushing boundaries, and looking for patterns of what works and what doesn’t. I have seen what works consistently across companies and organizations and what fails.

My lessons brought me to a single idea that will determine whether a company or organization will be successful with cloud-native initiatives and its - People, Process, and Technology. In this information age, any organization can increase revenue, bring products to market faster, provide first-class experiences to their customers, prevent developer burnout, and ultimately drive down costs with cloud-native and Kubernetes technology when those three things are kept at the front and center.

This is my business - I love working directly with companies, and when they succeed with Cloud Native, it is thrilling. My work helps me learn and hone my craft. The best part about this line of work is it lets me connect with amazingly brilliant and incredibly talented people worldwide. From my early days at Howard University to Mirantis and my time building out the Kubernetes Platform Team at ZeniMax Bethesda Xbox. I’ve been blessed to have cultivated friendships with some of the greatest minds in our generation, and I am genuinely grateful for the time, lessons learned, and experiences they have shared with me.
